PBS is a private, non-profit corporation whose members are America’s 356 public TV stations serving all 50 states, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa. PBS oversees program acquisition and provides program distribution and promotion; education services; new media ventures; fundraising support; engineering and technology development; and video marketing. Other major sources of funding are the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, revenue-generating activities, and grants.
Since PBS launched on November 3,1969, it has become known internationally for its outstanding children’s programs, news and public affairs, and documentaries. One of its children’s television series,
