Atlanta, (August 25, 2008)— Continuing a strong partnership, The Clayton County Department of Parks and Recreation, The Reach Them 2 Teach Them Foundation and the Clayton County Collaborative Authority have assembled a first-rate group of partners for the final event of their summer holiday event series on Labor Day, Monday, September 1, 2008.
Everything you love about Fall kicks-off on Labor Day at the park! From tailgating, a BBQ sauce competition, high school band performances, live music, back-to-school give-aways and even a fireworks show to close out the summer; you do not want to miss this exciting event. A great place for one last family get-away, the beach is located at 2300 Highway 138, S.E., Jonesboro, Georgia 30236 (I-75 South, exit 228), just 8 miles south of the Atlanta Airport.
Park gates open at 8:00am and activities start at 10:00am. For just $10 per person, park patrons can stay all day and enjoy the standard park amenities including in-ground grills, water park, face-painting, moonwalk, hiking trails, spacious parking and a full day of activities hosted by our event partners: 92.5 The Bear, Peachtree TV, Atlanta Tribune: The Magazine, Kroger and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Special activities include:
- “Boss of the Sauce” Taste-test Competition: With all summer to practice and perfect their recipes, one team will take home bragging rights for the best BBQ sauce in Atlanta. Separate registration is required to participate. Visit www.thebeachccip.com and www.925thebear.com for details.
- Education Celebration: K-12 students and their families can interact with Supplemental Education Suppliers (SES) providers and school district representatives to answer last-minute education questions. Peachtree TV will host a special “Peachtree TV Spelling Bee” for students age 5-15 with prizes and giveaways. The Reach Them 2 Teach Them Foundation will also introduce their new board members as well as announce their program plans for the upcoming year.
- Live Musical Performances & Fireworks Show: In addition to the numerous local and regional music artists that will be performing at the event; there will be a special guest performance by up and coming musical superstar, Katie Lawhorne. Then to end the summer with a bang a live fireworks showcase will take place at 9:15pm.
- Kick-off to the “Green Collar Jobs Project”: The Green World Promotions organization will be on-site obtaining 1,500 signatures to build support for the local green jobs that will be coming to the area. The project will allow up to 5,000 unemployed young adults to enter an 8-month training program that will prepare them for the “green” grants coming to Georgia this Fall.
Nearly 10,000 metro-Atlanta residents and visitors experienced the Summer Holiday Event Series on Memorial Day and 4th of July, so don’t miss this last event on Labor Day.
